2015 - The year of the Hoverboard.

How the years have crept up! Did you know that the initial release of the movie, Back to the Future II was way back in 1989. That's 26 years ago!!

So 26 years ago, it wouldn't have been silly to have imagined that by the year 2015, we'd have a Hoverboard as seen in the movie, right?

So where's my Hoverboard is the question!

Only a few years back, Seth Sentry (a hip hop artist from Melbourne) was right on track with asking the all important question in his song Dear Science (language warning - he's a bit peeved about the whole thing). You'd think this song would have reminded all the inventors in the world that there's only a few years left until the Hoverboard should be made available to us.

Although, it did seem as though we had finally hit the jackpot early last year. In February 2014, a prank video circulated the internet, showing that they had in fact invented the Hoverboard.

Many people fell for the prank, while some of us watched with skepticism. Just like that fake beer advertisement that made your voice sound high, as though you sucked some helium. Fun - but not true. So many people fell for the prank video, that they released another video, showing how they created the Hoverboard video and made it quite clear - that the release of the Hoverboard wasn't true.

One thing that IS apparently true - is that Nike are bringing out the self tying shoes that Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) wore in Back to the Future II. So even though we still don't have our Hoverboard, we can strut our stuff wearing the shoes. Bless them.

But all hope is not lost. Although it's the year of the Hoverboard, the exact month in which the futuristic mode of transport was used, was in October 2015. So there's still time (I'm looking at all you brainiacs of the world - there's still work to be done! Chop chop!)

In support of the slight possibility that Hoverboards may be introduced to the human race before the end of 2015, we can wear our message on our chests. I'm totally down with that!

Tshirts available here, here and here. Other products like mugs, caps and phone cases, ties (and a myriad of other items) available here, here and here.

And finally, if you're wondering what Michael J. Fox has been up to, you can see the wonderful work he and his team over at the Michael J. Fox Foundation have been doing to advance research in Parkinson's Disease. Something that's a lot closer to my heart, than actually having a super-cool Hoverboard.
